Abstract:
“Phagocytosis of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Diesel Exhaust Particles in THP-1 Cells and Human Blood Cells.” This pilot study provided initial evidence that diesel exhaust particles may alter uptake in cells capable of phagocytosis and thus may influence immune responses to Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection. Ms. Rockafellow’s dissertation research focuses on air pollution particle effects on phagocytosis and growth control of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. This project is assessing the effects of ambient air pollution exposure in Mexico City on human immunity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis
